The Biggest Marathon of Life!
If you are approaching the final weeks of pregnancy and wondering how you can begin to prepare for labor in a gentle, grounded way – this is for you! Birth is a full-body, full-heart experience. While we can’t always control how it unfolds, we can show up feeling supported, connected and strong in our bodies.
Let’s talk about some soft, simple ways you can begin to prepare your body for the journey ahead.
Gentle Movement
- Walking – A slow stroll can do wonders. It helps baby settle into position, improves circulation and keeps your body limber without pushing it too far.
- Pelvic tilts – These are beautiful for easing lower back tension and strengthening the deep core muscles you’ll be using during labor.
- Cat/Cow & Child’s Pose – Easy yoga movements that open the hips and soften the pelvis – perfect for practicing breath with movement.
Breathing and Relaxation
- Deep breathing – Learning to slow your breath now can make a big difference when you are riding out a contraction. Practice breathing in through your nose, filling your belly, and slowly exhaling through your mouth.
- Visualization – Practice a safe, cozy space. Maybe the ocean, a candle-lit room, a warm bath. Your mind can be a powerful ally during labor.
- Warm water – Showers and baths are such a balm in these final weeks. They help with aches, anxiety and just feeling like yourself again.
Preparing the Pelvic Floor
- Perineal massage – Around 34 weeks, you can start gently massaging the perineum to build flexibility in the tissues and reduce tearing. A little goes a long way and it’s a sweet way to tune into your bod with intention.
These are not big, intense workouts or strict routines, just soft, mindful ways to show your body love and prepare it for what’s ahead. You have carried this baby with so much care. You’re doing such a beautiful job already!
