Let’s Take A Look!
If you have been struggling with period pain – new pain, worsening pain or if it’s been a struggle since starting your period – there are ways to significantly reduce or eliminate this struggle. Shifting from thinking about only treating the symptom and uncovering the why the systems are showing up is necessary. With period pain there comes a combination of pain while uncovering and addressing root causes. So, how is this done?
Uncovering what is driving your period pain is the answer.
The major root causes behind period pain:
- High estrogen
- Low progesterone
- Stress
- Gut issues
- Poor estrogen detox (liver health)
- Not ovulating
- Inflammation
- Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
- Endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts
Estrogen Dominance
Pain with estrogen dominance means estrogen is high compared to progesterone (not simply high estrogen). You can be estrogen dominant and have normal estrogen levels, but low progesterone. Digging deeper into why they are out of balance is key.
High estrogen focus: gut and liver support
Low progesterone focus: ovulation support
Low or Suboptimal Progesterone
In the second half of your cycle progesterone balances out estrogen that rises in the first half of your cycle. No or suboptimal progesterone can mean more pain. You only produce progesterone if your ovulate.
We would want to assess:
- Suboptimal progesterone
- No progesterone = not ovulating, we would want to explore why
- Poor corpus luteum health (what remains after you ovulate and produces progesterone in the luteal phase)
- Poor egg quality
- Stress
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Suboptimal thyroid function
Poor Estrogen Detox
Poor estrogen detox can lead to more pain and symptoms, even if estrogen levels are normal. Estrogen metabolism happens in 3 steps, 2 in the liver and the 3rd is removal of estrogen through the stool (gut health).
Gut Issues
Gut issues can impact estrogen metabolism and be an internal source of stress and source of inflammation.
Vitamin and Mineral Deficiencies
Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can contribute to symptoms. We can uncover these with a combination of testing.
Stress
Stress is always a major root cause to explore. Testing can give insight into your cortisol production and pattern throughout the day. Digging into the why – looking at habits, nutrition, sleep and stressful things going on in your life, internal contributors – gut issues, etc. will be delved into.
Structural Reasons/Chronic Conditions
We will also discuss structural reasons and chronic conditions.
Through different testing options and a comprehensive health assessment, we will uncover and address your root causes (what is actually driving the symptoms). It is possible to experience pain-free periods and by addressing the root cause you can get there faster and by addressing those root causes we can get to what is driving your period pain. You can imagine the piece of mind finally having a symptom-free cycle after struggling with chronic severe pain.
