Are You Struggling With:
- bad cramps

- annoying breakouts
Are You Thinking You Have Issues With Estrogen – High Estrogen, Estrogen Dominance or Poor Estrogen?
These symptoms can certainly point to issues with estrogen. Symptoms can give us clues and a starting point to consider and testing can confirm what is going on in your body. (for testing info – click here) There is a lot you can do to support healthy estrogen levels and help reduce or eliminate these symptoms.
Symptoms of Estrogen Dominance
- Cramps
- Period pain
- Breast pain
- Mood swings
- Cyclical acne
- PMS
- Bloating
- Heavy bleeding
- Headaches
We can experience more symptoms in the luteal phase (time after ovulation until your next period) if you are having estrogen issues or estrogen dominance.
Many think estrogen dominance equals high estrogen. That certainly can be the case. When we talk about estrogen dominance we are talking about estrogen in relation to progesterone. Estrogen dominance can result in similar symptoms:
- Elevated estrogen, normal progesterone
- Elevated estrogen, low progesterone
- Normal estrogen, low progesterone
- Normal estrogen, normal progesterone but low Pg/E ratio
For this reason it is important to get into exactly what is up with your particular hormones so you are treating the right root cause, not just the symptom.
High estrogen often has to do with poor liver health, gut issues, environmental chemicals affecting estrogen levels.
Low progesterone means you are not ovulating or something like stress or nutrient deficiencies are affecting your levels.
Problems With Estrogen Can Arise With:
- High estrogen levels
- Estrogen levels higher compared to progesterone
- Poor estrogen metabolism
- Using products with estrogen-mimicking compounds
- Too much alcohol (it increases estrogen)
- Insulin resistance (or how well you are managing your blood sugar)
- Gut issues (impacts estrogen metabolism or constipation – estrogen is not getting moved out of the body)
- Genetic variations (MTHFR) or COMT genes can impact metabolism)
When we support healthy estrogen levels we focus on:
- Supporting Phase 1 and Phase 2 estrogen metabolism
- Supporting gut health
- Getting adequate nutrients for estrogen production and metabolism
- Reducing endocrine disruptors
- Reducing inflammation
